Rishi Nair - Final Thoughts

Last few lines of Rishi Nair - 19 year old and took a decision to take his life. Reading it gives a sense of melancholy I cant explain

The so-called ‘psychotically depressed’ person who tries to kill herself doesn’t do so out of quote ‘hopelessness’ or any abstract conviction that life’s assets and debits do not square. And surely not because death seems suddenly appealing. The person in whom it’s invisible agony reaches a certain unendurable level will kill herself the same way a trapped person will eventually jump from the window of a burning high-rise. Make no mistake about people who leap from burning windows. Their terror of falling from a great height is still just as great as it would be for you or me standing speculatively at the same window just checking out the view; i.e. the fear of falling remains a constant. The variable here is the other terror, the fire’s flames: when the flames get close enough, falling to death becomes the slightly less terrible of the two terrors. It’s not desiring the fall; it’s the terror of the flames. And yet, nobody down on the sidewalk, looking up and yelling ‘Don’t!’ and ‘Hang on!’, can understand the jump. Not really. You’d have to have personally been trapped and felt flames to really understand a terror way beyond falling.

Ozymandias

Sometimes I read poems and they just stick. So here is one of them. When I start writing like this - When ?

Ozymandias

By Percy Bysshe Shelley (1818)

I met a traveller from an antique land

Who said: Two vast and trunkless legs of stone

Stand in the desert. Near them on the sand,

Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown,

And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,

Tell that its sculptor well those passions read

Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,

The hand that mocked them and the heart that fed:

And on the pedestal these words appear:

“My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings;

Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!”

Nothing beside remains. Round the decay

Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare

The lone and level sands stretch far away

My Issues against BJP and Modi

My family whatsapp group is big fan of BJP and Modi. He is the one who would teach minorities their place. For long to play votebank politics, the other parties have appeased them and now its our time to get everything back.

2. “We suffer more often in imagination than in reality.” — Seneca

3. “If you don’t know where you are going, any road will take you there.” — Lewis Carroll

4. “The man who chases two rabbits catches neither.” — Confucius

5. “We all die. The goal isn’t to live forever; the goal is to create something that will.” — Chuck Palahniuk

6.  Evil doesn’t need active participants, it just needs passive bystanders. Silence, in the face of wrong, is not neutrality — it’s consent.

7.  Candour disarms. It creates clarity and even respect, because most people are starved for straightforwardness.

8. Before you speak, breathe and ask: “What is the clean truth here?”
Then say exactly that, politely.

What is Purpose in Life

Besides watching Netflix, Prime Videos and other stupid streaming platforms, what does one do to get him closer to ones goal and Purpose in Life ?

Boards

I was expected to top my 10th boards in 1992, and 28 years later, I wished to see my son repeat it. During this journey of preparing my son for boards, I became wiser and now suddenly has far less expectation from him. I still wish , he gets great marks , although his marks in pre-board and Half yearly is nothing to write home about. Plus looking at my career and also looking at others career, I am left wondering, how much does these milestone exams help you in long run. Life is beyond board.
I am currently teaching him history and hoping he gains understanding of such a complex subject.

Dated : 7th June 2022

Naman is now in 12th and just given his board paper for Maths and topped his school in Term 1 Boards. Hopefully he will get great Rank in JEE and if he is even lucky than probably a seat in Singapore.

Update in 2025 Naman got 98 percent in 12th boards, got 5800 in jee advanced , cracked bits goa CS - studying there and next year got into NUS - Computer engineering ( didn’t go there ) , currently in 4th year and doing PS in amex

“The Future You Already Exists — Start Acting Like It”

Sometimes I believe that whatever ones needs to be or dreamt to be , the glimpses of those can be done in your current role. Lets imagine, if your passion is teaching and you are part of corporate sales, well instead of throwing everything which you have done so far, and pursue a passion in teaching, might as well try to do it in your current role. Start with small things, teach sales or subjects which you like.

With technology so pervasive in today's world, you can do many things and wear many hats.
If I think CEO is what one want to be, then one has to first start behaving like one. Imagine, Create Visualise a perfect CEO and become that. Resources are unbounded because now you can direct anyone in the company to help you. You can delegate anyone. One who is not following you is a "challenge" which needs to persuaded by your vision and inspiration. Rise above everyone by becoming great.
First is to plan everything in advance.

  • Your current role isn’t a prison; it’s a playground to express facets of your deeper calling.
  • You can prototype your future self right now — through micro-behaviors, small acts, and reframed perspectives.
  • Technology and interconnectedness have dissolved old boundaries; “either/or” has become “and/also.”

AI generated now

That’s the essence of integrated living — evolution through context, not escape from it.

Sometimes, I believe that whatever we’re meant to become, the glimpses of it already exist in our current roles — if only we learn to see them.

If your passion is teaching but you’re in corporate sales, don’t throw away everything you’ve built. Start teaching within your world — guide juniors, share insights, run internal workshops, or create short videos on sales mastery. You’ll be both selling and teaching — and slowly aligning your outer work with your inner calling.

Technology today lets us wear many hats. You can be a salesperson and a teacher, a manager and a storyteller, a coder and a philosopher — all at once.

If your dream is to become a CEO, then begin by thinking, planning, and leading like one now.
Visualize the ideal CEO you admire — strategic, composed, visionary — and act from that place today. Lead by influence, not title. See every colleague as part of your organization. Those who resist? Consider them your leadership test — to win through persuasion, clarity, and inspiration.

Greatness doesn’t arrive with designation.

It begins the day you plan, act, and behave like the person you aspire to be — with the tools and people you already have.

Small ticket business role

What is one supposed to do in this role. Well one has to create a lot of work for oneself and also vision for this small ticket team. Maybe that is how one would stay busy. Somehow it seems I have to go and find work for myself. Anyway, one thing I need to so is to get to the bottom of sourcing and fill gaps. Like this

A. Look at how its being sourced today, who is sharing the leads and how do we make sure that I meet him as often as possible. This means that I need to look at sourcing data going back ( say ) atleast one year.

B. Referral business. I need to know how many referrals have existing people created and work on it

C. NPS data - Meet all the NPS direct customers.

Lets start with creating a vision chart for myself

Lakshya Development

11th feb, visited vikki house in dwarka. Got severe depression looking at vihaan. Lux is off development charts, big time. Will he ever ever catch up nd start speaking fluently.
Also, I am getting worried about naman.
Worrying worrying worrying

7th June 2022 Update

Lakshya is almost 9. He is super fluent in English and Hindi. Needs some more time to brush up his Vocab. He dodged the bullet and is now will excel in most of the things. This is far beyond our expectations. Purple Belt in Karate, learning Bady Daily, Learning Music, Superb in Maths.

There are Emotional Regulation Issues but I strongly believe intervention would help there too.

Independence day thoughts

While running the marathon today, well it was mostly brisk walking and trying to catch up with excited 10 yr old Naman, I was struck with a thought !...... on how easy it is to buy new things, but how lazy it is to think of alternatives, especially when those free alternatives would do the job much better and cheaper than the original plan.

Somehow the system which is giving us money is also making us dependent on it. No longer are we, buying experiences, we are only buying products, without realising that we are happier and more satisfied when we have experiences.

And thats why, today's marathon ( walk ;-) ) was so important. We share these experiences and we cherish them. And one photo was enough to capture the 1 hr sweat.

and then is the culture of taking selfie, it seems we indians are forefront of all fads and fashions. We really are narcissist. Somehow through out the marathon, the one thing which kept me going on was the sharing of the final pic, the triumph on whatsapp.

It seems I have deviated. Every single consumption that I do, I keep on thinking why dont i go online and see how other people have worked out on solution to this problem before pushing button on flipkart. and mind you, i do it very often. I would rather buy one more T-shirt than trying to sort out my almirah. Thats lazy for you.

So my next blogs would be on creativity and Ultra short term planning.

चलो फिर

Surprisingly !!The job which I have currently is giving me ample time to think.

Infact, I am wondering, what creative methods do I apply to keep myself involved. Right now , I am involved in what I call "whats my value addition" in the entire chain of event. Definitely, not the following up. I hate that part of the job, where I am continuously chasing only for updation. Who wants to be monitored, specially when there are too many monitors in the class.
